Need help with that tuition bill? How about room & board, or your books?
No, I am not here to offer you a high-interest rate student loan. What I have compiled is a list of the lighting industry’s well known scholarhip programs and design competitions available to students pursuing a career in lighting. Use your talents to win tuition money and/or a free trip to industry events such as LightFair, held either in NYC or Las Vegas, or even Light+Build, which is held in Frankfurt, Germany. Here’s the list in random order:
1. Robert Bruce Thompson Student Fixture Design Competition (see Jonas’ earlier post about this competition)
2. IALD Education Trust Scholarship Program
3. Howard Brandston Student Lighting Grant
4. Robert E. Thunen Memorial Scholarship Committee
5. Young Professionals Scholarship Fund
7. Robert J. Besal Scholarship
8. Optical Research Associates Optical Design Competition
9. Designers Lighting Forum of New England Scholarship
10. IESNY Student Lighting Competition
12. Cooper Lighting Source Awards
13. Lights of the Future ( bi-annual )
Go ahead and put together an entry. Winning one of these competitions is a good way to earn money for school or to further your education at industry events. In addition to some bragging rights, it could even help you land the biggest prize you’ll need after graduation: a job.
